Biography

Practicing primarily out of the firm’s Charleston office, Jake’s practice focuses on all phases and aspects of real estate litigation law, as well as commercial transactions. His experience includes counseling banks and other lending institutions on various commercial lending and collection matters, as well as protecting creditors’ rights in bankruptcy proceedings. He has also represented lenders in matters related to financial fraud, foreclosure defense, curative title matters, and other business transactions. Jake has also represented title insurance underwriters in South Carolina’s state and federal courts in all types of matters. In 2016 Jake achieved certification as a circuit court mediator by the South Carolina Bar. He has spoken and given presentations at conferences regarding creditor’s rights in bankruptcy and real estate litigation, most recently at the annual South Carolina Bankruptcy Law Association annual conference. Jake is a graduate of the 2012 South Carolina Bar Leadership Academy, and currently serves on the Law-Related Education and the Conventions Committees for the South Carolina Bar. He also serves as a judge for Carol N. Ney National Mock Trial Tournament at Furman University. Jake earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the University of South Carolina in 2005, cum laude, and his Juris Doctor from Washington and Lee University in 2008. While in law school, Jake was a George D. Shore Memorial Scholar and a member of the Moot Court Executive Board.
