Biography

Jim Lupton is an accomplished criminal defense attorney and formerly a successful local prosecutor. He is the only private criminal defense attorney in Carteret County both certified by the North Carolina State Bar as a State Criminal Law Specialist and recognized as an AV Preeminent Peer Rated Lawyer by Martindale Hubbell, which is the highest possible rating in both legal ability and ethical standards. He is knowledgeable, confident, well-respected, hardworking and above all, always dedicated to protecting his clients by listening to them, being available for them, and aggressively fighting for them. Jim has also been admitted to practice in U.S. District Court and the United States Supreme Court, but chooses to concentrate his practice in the courtrooms of Carteret County. As a longtime prosecutor in Carteret County, Jim prosecuted countless thousands of cases in district court, from minor traffic and driving while impaired, assaults, drug offenses, property crimes, wildlife and fisheries violations while also successfully trying countless jury trails in Superior Court for all manners of felonies, including but not limited to robberies, sex offenses, narcotic sales, burglaries and countless others. In his twenty-five years as a privately retained criminal defense attorney, he has helped many thousands of clients deal with charges from the simplest traffic offense all the way up to murder. On the most severe of cases when it benefits our clients, Jim will work alongside John E. Nobles, III and other talented partners of the firm. Jim is a member of the North Carolina Advocates for Justice, the North Carolina Bar Association, The National Trial Lawyers, The Eastern North Carolina Inn of Court, Carteret County Bar, District 3-B Bar (Past President) and Lookout Rotary Club. He received his B.S., cum laude from Wake Forest University in 1987 and his law degree from the University of North Carolina School of Law in 1992. View More ›
