Katherine Phelps

Katherine Phelps is a divorce and family law attorney for Stange Law Firm, PC in Topeka, KS. She can assist clients throughout Shawnee County and the surrounding areas. Katherine completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Kansas, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. She went on to earn her Juris Doctorate from the University of Missouri – Kansas City School of Law. While in law school she completed internships for the Estate Planning and Drafting Clinic as well as the Midwest Innocence Project. She also worked as a law clerk for a firm in Kansas City, where she worked with attorneys and partners on drafting motions, preparing answers to petitions, drafting discovery requests, and attended hearings and trials. She is currently licensed to practice law in the states of Missouri and Kansas. Prior to joining Stange Law Firm in Topeka, Katherine worked as an attorney in both Missouri and Kansas. She began her career in Kansas City for a debt collection firm where she represented creditors in suits on notes, guarantees, and other instruments of indebtedness. She handled a large caseload for the firm which included drafting and reviewing petitions, motions, garnishments, and settlement documents. She moved onto a firm that represented real estate investors and creditors in cases that pertained to landlord/tenant relations, collection, and other real estate related matters. During her time there, she attended hearings throughout Missouri and Kansas, including anywhere from 5 to 20 bench trials per week. This included coordinating and overseeing meetings and settlement discussions among parties, negotiation of settlements, monitoring compliance, and maintaining case databases.
