Juvenile Law
North Carolina
I became a juvenile lawyer by accident but quickly discovered that this area of the law captured both my heart and brain. I practiced exclusively in juvenile court for over ten years. I began representing children accused of breaking the law in order to ensure that they had a voice and were heard. Whatever the outcome in court, when children are given a voice and are heard, they begin to trust and feel respected and empowered. It is important to remember that "delinquents" are children, with undeveloped brains, and they and their families need to be shepherded through the court system. I am also a parent defender; I represent parents whose children are in danger of being removed or have already been removed from home for placement in the custody of the Department of Social Services. These parents face the worst time of their lives, deserved or not, and it is my duty to help them do whatever is necessary to have their children back home with them. Recently I expanded my practice to handle expunctions, emancipations, and name changes. It is my hope that children and their families come to me for whatever assistance I can provide, whatever the problem. View More ›
