Biography

"Attorney Lilburn's range and depth of expertise as a Litigator and Family Lawyer, combined with her compassionate, personalized approach, empowered me to be strong, factual, and reassured." It is a great thing to find what you love to do for a living, especially when you have an opportunity to help make a difference. I found my opportunity when I became I lawyer. After becoming a lawyer, I taught legal studies at the University of New Haven for eleven years in addition to practicing law on a full time basis. I continue to act as chair on the Advisory Board for the Legal Studies program to stay in touch with the different generations of students and to hear their concerns. Teaching taught me to listen, to learn from others, and to help my clients focus on what they can do to successfully move on to the next stage in their lives. Interacting with people, crafting language and working with numbers are my areas of interest and practicing family law incorporates all three. Family law reflects society and also helps to form aspects of society. Each client’s story is different. As a result, it is necessary to have a meaningful consultation with each client. I help clients define their goals and work to achieve those goals within the framework of each client’s life. I also help them negotiate an intricate legal system. I strive to help my clients retain or receive fair and equitable division of assets and income. Divorce or legal separation does not change the fact that parents and siblings are still part of a family and an equitable division is the law in Connecticut. It is important to have enough money to live our lives well. It is also necessary to have enough funds to help our children thrive. View More ›
